This Temple is one of the wonders of south built between 1623 and 1655 CE. It’s historic architecture won it to be in the list of nominees for “New Seven Wonders of the World.” It is also known as Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman Thirukkovil, located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River[2] in the temple city[3] of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Apart from the uniqueness of the historic structure which includes defensive walls around the temple, 14 gopurams, two separate shrines. the main deity worshipped is goddess Meenakshi which is unique as Lord Shiva is the main deity in many other Shiva Temples. The view of the temple is magnificent & the green stone image of Meenakshi, standing in bent-leg posture is even more attractive. Her raised hand holds a lotus, on which sits a green parrot. Her left hand hangs by her side. It is dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, her consort Sundareśvarar, a form of Shiva and her brother Aḻagar, a form of Vishnu
